Sungai Anak Bukit near its confluence with Sungai Kedah in Alor Setar (2 August, 2015)
Sungai Anak Bukit is one of the major rivers that flow through
Alor Setar. It is a tributary of Sungai Kedah. Sungai Anak Bukit flows into
Sungai Kedah at the Alor Star Chinatown. The site of the confluence is called Tanjung Chali, and has been turned into a public square called Dataran Tanjung Chali.
Sungai Anak Bukit got its name because it flows through the Alor Setar suburb of
Anak Bukit, which is the Kedah royal town. Upstream the river becomes known as Sungai Besar, before it meets Sungai Padang Terap.
