Jalan Guar Chempedak, Kedah (25 July 2015)
Guar Chempedak (GPS: 5.85408, 100.46224) is a small town in
Yan District, Kedah. It is a rural community located midway between
Alor Setar and
Sungai Petani. Located just north of
Gurun, Guar Chempedak is the town you will pass by if you are on your way to the many popular waterfalls of Kedah such as
Seri Perigi,
Titi Hayun and
Batu Hampar. By the way, the word "guar" means hillock in the northern Malay dialect, not "gua" which means cave in Malay.
There isn't much of interest at Guar Chempedak. Having said that, I have to say that Guar Chempedak has one of the loveliest country roads in Kedah. The road, Jalan Guar Chempedak, links the
pekan (village heart) with Yan Kechil. Along the way, it passes through the villages of Teroi and Titi Serong. What I love about the road is that it is lined with tall trees, so it feels like you are driving through a green tunnel. If you look to your left, you will see green paddy fields with Gunung Jerai in the distance. I stopped the car once so that I can take a few shots of the mountain.
