Leong Bee & Soo Bee, which calls itself nowadays as the LBSB Group, is a manufacturer of precision mechanical components. It has a branch at Macallum Street Ghaut. From the old days when the company was a manufacturer of sawblades and knives, it has diversified its portfolio to now also includes photonics, laser, fibre optic communication and medical equipment, among others.
LBSB was founded in the early 20th century by a Chinese migrant, Tan Teong Sin, who left
China for Southeast Asia. After a sojourn in
Myanmar, he eventually settled in Malaya, where he stared a business selling Chinese wine. The old LBSB building on Macallum Street Ghaut, which was built in the Art Deco style and finished with Shanghai plaster, is called the Tan Teong Sin Building in his honour.
