The Jewel of Muscat is a replica of a 9th-century Omani sailing ship. It was built as a joint effort between the governments of Oman and Singapore.

The project to build the Jewel of Muscat began with the construction of a model ship in January 2008. Timber for the ship was obtained from Ghana. In June of that year, a beach site in Qantab, Oman was identified and cleared for the shipyard.

By October, the timber arrived from Ghana. Construction began, but was interrupted when the shipyard was damaged on 25 March, 2009, by a storm. Nonetheless the shipyard was reparted and construction of the ship resumed. Finally, on 1 September, 2009, the last piece of the ship was put in place. By late September the ship was ready to be launched. That eventful ceremony took place on 18 October, 2009.

The first sea trial of the Jewel of Muscat was conducted in January, 2010. It was found to be working well. On 1st February, 2010, former prime minister of Singapore Goh Chok Tong visited Oman during the official naming ceremony of the ship, which was then given the name Jewel of Muscat.

On 18 February, the Jewel of Muscat sets sail for Singapore. After 28 days at sea, it arrived in Cochin, India, greeted by dignitaries from Oman and its host country. On 10 April, it left Cochin for the secone leg of its voyage. Eight days later it sailed into Galle, Sri Lanka.

On 15 May, 2010, the Jewel of Muscat began its third leg from Galle to George Town, Malaysia, with a crew of 19. On 2 June 2010, the Jewel of Muscat sailed into Swettenham Pier and berthed at the Tanjung City Marina at Church Street Pier.

The Jewel of Muscat will leave George Town for Singapore on 16 June, 2010.
