Sagano District is a rural district in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. It is a place with bamboo groves, temples and cemeteries. It is a great place to explore the sights of rural Japan within a short distance from Kyoto.

Adashino Nenbutsu-ji This is a temple where, during the feudal era, corpses were disposed. Grave markers carved in the likeness of the Buddha stand in rows. On 23 and 24 August, candles are lit for the dead.
Gio-ji A small thatched nunnery. This was where Gio, the cast-off mistress of warload Taira no Kiyomori, became nun.
Jojakko-ji Temple on Ogura-yama, a mountain famous for its scenic beauty.
Nison-in Temple with statues of Amida and Shakamuni.
Osawa-no-Ike Pond built to imitate Lake Tungting in China.
Rakushi-sha Literally, "Hut of the Fallen Persimmons", was the home of poet Mukai Kyorai (1651-1704).
Seiryo-ji Temple housing the Shakamuni Buddha statue, brought to Japan in AD 987.
Torii Moto A vermillion torii gate marking the beginning of an ancient tgrail that goes up to sacred Mount Arago, home of the Japanese fire god.
