National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, is a museum in the Okazaki area of Kyoto. It goes by the acronym of MOMAK.
The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, is home to an outstanding collection of paintings by Kyoto artists. The emphasis of the museum is on artists and artistic movements in the Kyoto and Kansai area. The gallery exhibits Japanese-style paintings as well as Western-style paintings. Also on display are crafts and sculptures, lacquer works, metalworks and photography.
The museum was established on its present site on 1 March, 1963. The present building was designed by Fumihiko Maki, and opened on 26 October, 1986.
