Chiba (Japanese: 千葉市), also called Chiba City in English, is the capital of Chiba Prefecture, about 40 km (25 mi) southeast of downtown Tokyo, Japan. It covers 272.08 sq km (105.05 sq mi) and has a population of 963,000 people (2012 estimate).
Chiba was founded as a city on 1 January, 1921. It became a Designated City of Japan on 1 April, 1992. The city comprises six neighborhoods or wards (ku), namely Chuo-ku, Hanamigawa-ku, Midori-ku, Mihama-ku and Wakaba-ku.
If you arrive at Narita Airport, take the JR Narita Line or the N'EX limited express trains to Chiba City. If coming from Tokyo, your options include the JR Sobu Rapid Line from Tokyo Station (40 minutes, ¥620), the JR Chuo-Sobu Local Line from Shinjuku (70 minutes, ¥780) and Akihabara, and the JR Keiyo Line from Tokyo Station to Chiba Minato and Soga stations (45 minutes, ¥740).
