Manali (Hindi: मनाली) is a town in the north central part of Himachal Pradesh, in northern India. It is situated in the Beas River Valley, about 1,950 m (6,398 ft) above sea level. The present town has a population of close to 20,000 people (2012 estimate).
Manali is culturally significant in Hinduism, as it is said to be the home of the Saptarishi, or Seven Sages, of Vedas and Hindu literature. Its name means "the abode of Manu", in reference to the progenitor of mankind in Hinduism.
