Jamshedpur (Bengali: জামশেদপুর, Hindi: जमशेदपुर) is the biggest city in the state of
Jharkhand, India. It covers 149 sq km (58 sq mi) and has a population of 1.34 million people. The city is often called Tatanagar or Tata City, as it was founded by the late Jamshedji Nusserwanji Tata, the industrialist who created the Tata Group. In any case, Jamshedpur also mean Jamsetji's City.
Jamshedpur is the first planned city in India. It developed on the site of the village of Sakchi, and was renamed by British statesman Lord Chelmsford in 1919 after Jamshedji Nausserwanji Tata, in honor of his contribution. From early on in its history, Jamshedpur was geared to be a city of heavy industries. Today it houses various arms of the Tata Group including Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tate Power, Tata Technologies Limited, and other large companies. Despite its industrial base, it was declared in 2010 as the 7th cleanest city in India. It also ranks as the 7th richest city in the country.

The Tatanagar Railway Station is the railway station for Jamshedpur. It is an important railway junction, receiving trains on the Howrah-Dehli line, connecting Jamshedpur with Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Ranchi and Patna, among others.
