Jammu (Dogri: जम्मू, Urdu: جموں, Punjabi: ਜੰਮੂ) is the winter capital of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, India. The city has a very ancient history, having been established in the 14th century BC by Raja Jambu Lochan. Due to this, it has today accumulated a high number of temples, making it a pilgrimage destination in India.
The city of Jammu is within the administrative division of Jammu, which comprises the districts of Doda, Kathua, Jammu, Udhampur, Rajouri, Ramban, Reasi, Samba, Kishtwar and Poonch.

There are several religious festivals celebrated in Jammu every year. At the start of the year, Lohri is celebrated on 13 January, to herald the onset of spring. This is when thousands of devotees take a dip in the holy river. A special dance called the Chajja is also staged.
On 13 or 14 April, Jammu celebrated Baisakhi. This is the harvest festival. Getting married during this time is regarded as auspicious. Twice a year, in March-April and September-October, the Bahu Mela is a festival held at the Kali Temple in Bahu Fort. Other festivals and feast days in Jammu include the Chaitre Chaudash (March-April), Purmandal Mela (February-March), Jhiri Mela (October-November) and Navratri Festival (September-October).
