Faridabad (Hindi: फरीदाबाद) is the largest city in the state of Haryana in northern India. The Faridabad district covers 2,151 sq km (830 sq mi) and has a population of 1.45 million people (2012 estimate). It shares a border with the National Capital and Union Territory of Delhi located to its immediate north.
Faridabad dominates the economy of Haryana, generating 60% of the state GDP. In addition to being a major industrial hub, it is famous as a producer of henna. The city traces its history to 1607, when it was founded by Sheikh Farid, and bears his name, meaning "Farid's City".
