Bhiwani (Hindi: भिवानी, Urdu: بهيوانيي) is a city on the eastern part of the state of Haryana in northern India. Its history goes back to the 16th century, where it was documented in the Ain-i-Akbari, the constitution for Emperor Akbar's empire. The city of 170,000 people (2012 estimate) was founded by a Rajput king and named after his consort Bhani, the spelling of which evolved over time to Bhiyani and eventually Bhiwani.
