Bhavnagar (Gujarati: ભાવનગર, Hindi: भावनगर) is a city on the west coast of the Gulf of Khambhat, in Gujarat, India. Covering 53 sq km (20.6 sq mi), it was founded in 1723 and named after its founder Bhavsinhji Gohil. It was the capital of the princely state of Bhavnagar until its merger into the Indian Union in 1948.
