The newly expanded Hean Boo Thean Temple looks fabulous at night. I have been trying to get some night shots for the past week, but it rained almost every evening, so I was unable to visit the temple at night for the shots. By the time the renovated temple opened, I have photographed it a number of times, but always during the day.
I was finally able to get a "dry night" on 3 December, 2012. However it was quite a windy night, so photography was quite a challenge. Motion blur can be a friend or a foe to night-time photography. In this case, it is more a hindrance. The Hean Boo Thean Temple is festooned by lighted lanterns and small LED lights which are beautiful to look at at night. However they sway about in the wind, creating unwanted motion blur to long exposures.
I took shots of Hean Boon Thean from Tan Jetty and Chew Jetty. At both places, wind was an issue. On top of that, Tan Jetty seemed to vibrate in the wind, contributing again to motion blur.
