Tenby is believed to have been established in the 9th century. The town developed around the now-ruined Tenby Castle, built in 1153. It began to make a name as a health resort since the Georgian and Victorian eras.
Today's Tenby has managed to retain its handsome Georgian character without falling headlong into over-commercialization, as has happened in other seaside towns. As a result, visitors can still enjoy its small town feel, with its narrow strees and alleyways.
