Epping is one of a number of settlements in the area. The settlement listed in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Epinga is known today as Epping Upland. The town received a market charter in 1253 from King Henry III, giving it the right to hold a weekly market that is still being held today.
Most of the historic buildings in Epping are along High Street. These were built mainly in the 19th century. Due to its rural charm, Epping real estate is sought after by those in London, helping it uphold its value.
