Blanes is a small town in the province of Girona, in the autonomous community of Catalonia in Spain. Located on the coast facing the Mediterranean Sea, it covers 17.68 sq km (6.83 sq mi) and has a population of 40,000 people (2012 estimate).
Blanes has been settled as early as Roman times. After the fall of Roman influence, the area was ruled by various powers including the Arabs and later Christian Spain. As with many towns along the coast, the town has since developed as a tourist destination. It is particularly popular for its nightlife.

From Barcelona, take the C-32 highway heading northeast along the coast till you reach Blanes.
