Ascoli Piceno is a town in the region of Marche, Italy. It is the provincial capital of the eponymous province. Located at the confluence of the Tronto River and the Castellano River, it covers 160 sq km (60 sq mi) and has a population of 51,000 people (2012 estimate).
Ascoli Piceno was founded a few centuries before Rome. Over time it fell under the rule of Roman, though it did revolt once, in 91 BC, only to find itself reconquered two years later. Ascoli Piceno remained part of the Roman Empire until the latter collapsed. It was annexed into the Kingdom of Italy in 1860.

You can get to Ascoli Piceno by bus from Rome. The bus starts at Castro Pretorio street, near Termini, the railway station of Rome, and takes you to the Ascoli Piceno railway station. If going there by road, the most direct highway is the SS4 that heads in a northeast direction out of Rome.
