The town covers 45.18 sq km (17.44 sq mi) and has a population of 22,000 people (2012 estimate).
Gelnhausen was founded by the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick Barbarossa in 1170. As such, it is often called Barbarossastadt. It is located at the crossroad between the imperial road and other trade routes.
How to go to Gelnhausen
Gelnhausen is located to the northeast of Frankfurt am Main. From Frankfurt, take Autobahn 66 until you arrive in Gelnhausen. There are also train services from Frankfurt. The train takes half an hour to reach Gelnhausen.
