Picardy is a region on the northern part of France. Covering 19,399 sq km (7,490 sq mi), it is bordered by Nord-Pas de Calais to the north, Champagne-Ardenne to the east, Ile-de-France to the south and Upper Normandy to the west. Amiens is the capital of the region.

Picardy has a population of 1,890,000 (2011 estimate). Its inhabitants speak the Picard language. They also have a distinct cultural heritage that includes beautiful Gothic churches such as the Amiens Cathedral and Beauvais Cathderal and the Saint-Quentin Basilica.

Picardy has a stretch of coastline facing the English Channel at the estuary of the Somme, on the west, and forested lands and pastures to the east.

Going to Picardy

You can take a train from Paris to Amiens, the main city of Picardy. Journey takes about an hour and costs €18 each way.
