Châteauroux is the capital of the district of Indre in the region of Centre, France. It is the second biggest town in the province of Berry after Bourges. The town covers 25.54 sq km (9.86 sq mi) and has a population of 46,000 people (2012 estimate).
Châteauroux got its name from its castle, which was erected in the latter part of the 10th century. It rose in stature over the centuries, eventually holding the rank of a duchy by the 17th century. Today it is a relatively quiet town with a limited number of attractions.
How to go to Châteauroux
Châteauroux is located to the south of Orléans. From there, take the A71 expressway south till Vierzon, then continue on the A20 to reach it.
