Claypot Chicken Rice is a popular hawker food in Penang. It has become more popular in the past two decades. The dish comprises chicken cooked in a claypot over a fire, with other main ingredients being Chinese sausages, egg and salted fish. Some times shittake mushroom is also added to it. The aroma of the dish comes from the dark soya sauce and dried salted fish. The claypot is slow-cooked over the fire and served to the customer in the pot itself.
