West Gopura is the main entrance for most visitors to Angkor Wat. It is connected to the main road by a massive causeway. This causeway crosses the huge moat that encircles the Angkor Wat complex. On reaching the West Gopura, the causeway continues toward the temple proper.
The West Gopura is most people's first sight of Angkor Wat. It comprises a main prasat, or lotus tower, flanked on either sides by smaller prasats. All three of these prasats are in various stages of decay, but have since been restored, not not rebuilt to their original forms.
