The
South Gopura of Angkor Wat is quite likely the first sight of Angkor that most visitors see when they arrive. This is the side of the complex across the road from the moat. You do not enter from here, rather, you have to make your way to the main entrance which faces west.
Few people actually visit the South Gopura. Although it is visible across the moat as you come from the direction of Siem Reap, it is quite a distance to reach on foot.
To reach the South Gopura, the most straightforward way to to walk towards it from the south side of Angkor Wat. You should be able to reach it within 10 minutes. There is not much to see here. The gopura is usually devoid of visitors - only hardcore Angkor enthusiasts venture this far. You can look across the moat from here at the main road where tourist buses ply.
