The East Gate of Angkor Thom (27 February, 2006)

The
East Gate of Angkor Thom is a seldom visited part of the ancient city of Angkor Thom. There is nothing extraordinarily spectacular about this particular gate, if you have seen the others, such as the South, North and Victory Gates.
How to reach the East Gate of Angkor Thom
The East Gate is the least popular of the five gates of Angkor Thom. Many tuk tuk drivers have not been there before, and so you need to be persuasive to get them to take you there. My own tuk tuk driver Mr Han was reluctant to take me here but relented after much persuasion. Another alternative is to hire a bicycle or motorcycle and ride there yourself.
To walk, it is 1.5 km from the Bayon, 3 km total. The best time to go is during the dry season, between January to March, so that the route to the East Gate is dry and not muddy.
