Bayan Lepas Flyover (3 February 2013)


The Bayan Lepas Flyover is one of the oldest flyovers on Penang Island. It was built in the late 1970s in conjunction with the expansion of the Penang International Airport, then known as the Bayan Lepas Airport.

The Bayan Lepas Flyover provides a bypass for traffic between Sungai Tiram and the Bayan Lepas township. The area was semi-rural at the time it was built, but today the surrounding areas are experiencing rapid development. This has resulted in major jams at the traffic light towards Bayan Lepas town, with traffic often backed up to the flyover. The area also experience some congestion on Saturdays due to the pasar malam at nearby Jalan Mahkamah.
