For some reason, whenever someone's computer breaks down, he would get in touch with me. I suppose people figure that, considering I use the computer the whole time, and being so prominent on the web, I must be an expert when it comes to repairing one of these babies.
The truth is, I know zilch about what goes on inside the computer. (And I have to sheepishly admit to that, despite having worked at a computer company for ten years - my job wasn't repairing computers, okay?) So when my Dell XPS desktop went belly up, it was I myself who had to look for help.
The someone to answer my distress call is Azhar Yusof, who read my FB post and immediately contacted me. Though he holds a day job, Azhar earns a bit on the side repairing computers for people. I like that in people. And I like people who proactively seek business than wait for it to drop on their lap. Azhar came over to take a look at my system. He was like a giant when standing next to me.
To cut a long story short, in the end I decided to chuck my existing system and get a new one. That's because my system was already obsolete (as informed to me by Dell), and trying to replace the motherboard and other related parts, I might as well start anew. But instead of buying from Dell once more, I had Azhar build a computer for me. The end result is that I save a thousand ringgit over the price of a brand new Dell XPS Studio desktop. So it's not a Dell but a capalang brand *
See footnote. Doesn't matter. What does matter is that it allows me to do what I need to do, and on top of that, I now have 3 TB of hard disk space instead of just 1 TB, if I had bought straight from Dell.
But the best thing of all is that I now have in Azhar my own tech support, reachable via Facebook and phone, with on day or next business day support, to ensure that my system hums along without a hiccup. For a guy who cannot afford downtime, that is vital. Of course I am not going to bother Azhar for every minute detail that I can handle myself, but it's nice to have someone to help in moments when I have to issue an SOS.
If you live anywhere on Penang Island, and would need a computer repair man, I am happy to recommend
Azhar Yusof, at 012 583 0086. That nice giant pictured below is him.
Ladies and gentlemen, my computer repair guy!

Footnote
* Azhar pointed out to me that my computer is
not a capalang brand, but rather an enthusiast brand, with the motherboard and graphics card from Gigabyte, a top brand computer parts manufacturer, alongside the Asus brand. In contrast, Dell and HP are more to computer solutions, buying parts from OEM companies, building the pc and rebranding it as their own brand.
