Terrebonne is a suburb on the North Shore of Montreal. It comprises the neighborhoods of Lachenaie, La Plaine and Terrebonne which until merger in 2001 were three separate cities. Terrebonne covers 154.74 sq km (59.75 sq mi) and has a population of 106,000 people (2012 estimate).

Of the three former cities that form present-day Terrebonne, the city of Lachenaie is the oldest, having been founded in 1670 by Lord Charles Aubert de Lachenaye on a site already occupied by various native tribes of First Nations people. Colonization began in 1647, though formal settlement only took place in 1673. Terrebonne was established around 1720.

From the 17th to the 18th centuries, more settlements were developed in the area, among them Mascouche, Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, Saint-Lin and Terrebonne. La Plaine was created in 1830 from parts of these settlements.

By the 20th century, Terrebonne has emerged as the most urbanized of the settlements. In 1985, it annexed the largely agricultural city of Saint-Louis de Terrebonne. Then in 2001 it absorbed Lachenaie and La Plaine, to create the 10th largest city in Quebec.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
