Upper Penang Road is the nightlife part of George Town, the watering hole for expatriates. In a way, it is similar to Clarke Quay in Singapore, but on a smaller scale. The biggest beverage outlet in the area is Slippery Señorita.
On the last Sunday of every month, the Little Penang Street Market is held along Upper Penang Road. The street market is run on a non-profit basis to promote local art and culture. It has been going on since July 2006 showcasing various handicrafts and cultural activities.
