Sungai Burong is a rural neighbourhood in Balik Pulau, Penang. The community was traditionally engaged in rice farming. The area has the last expanse of paddy fields on Penang Island.

The name Sungai Burong, which means "bird river", is a small stream the runs from the Balik Pulau hills to the sea in the west coast. It passes through the paddy fields, where it has been canalised, with a bund beside it.
