Pulau Gedung is a small island adjacent to Pulau Aman, off the coast of Bukit Tambun, Seberang Perai. To go to Pulau Gedung, you can hire a boat from Pulau Aman.
Pulau Gedung is said to be a pirate's haunt a long time ago. For that reason, there's a place called Batu Perompak (robber's rock, or pirate rock), which is the grave of a pirate captain by the name of Panglima Garang. Also on the island is Gua Lanun (Pirate's Cave) and Makam Purba (ancient tomb).
For inquiries on boats to Pulau Gedung, contact the Seberang Perai Fisherman Association at +604 397 9796 and +604 530 7185.
Where to stay when in Penang? Well, it depends on what you are looking for and your threshold for "budgetness". The Penang Budget Accommodation Guide provides a selection of budget accommodation for you to look at. If I am allowed to be biased, I would recommend Hotel Mingood. It is operated by a friend of mine, Arthur, who has been in the hotel business for a few decades. I have visited it and found it to be a pretty decent place to stay, on a budget. But before you decide, go through the list of Penang hostels and check out their location before you book.
