Experience the Best of George Town World Heritage Site

Much excitement has been generated since George Town was inscribed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO on 7 July, 2008. However the inscription of George Town covers not one building, but a collection of historic buildings spread across the core zone of the World Heritage Site.

On this personal walking tour, you are provided a glimpse into the over 200-year history of the British settlement of George Town, the first British trading port in the Far East, the prototype for later ports such as Singapore and Hong Kong. On this tour, you visit all the important sites in George Town representing a cross section of the historic sites of the various ethnic groups making the city their home.

This walking tour starts at the Queen Victoria Clock Tower at Fort Cornwallis and makes a circuit route to return to the same spot. Places visited includes Chew Jetty, Khoo Kongsi (fee), Acheen Street Mosque, Sun Yat Sen Museum, Kapitan Keling Mosque, Teochew Ancestral Temple, Mahamariamman Temple, Kuan Im Teng, St George's Church, Logan Memorial, Municipal Fountain, Town Hall, City Hall and the Esplanade.
