Bukit Gedung, Penang

Bukit Gedung is a lower-middle class residential neighbourhood in Bayan Baru, Penang. Also written Bukit Gedong, it is bounded by Jalan Tengah on the northern side, Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah to the east, Jalan Tun Dr Awang to the west, and the namesake hill, Bukit Gedung, to the south. The neighbourhood of Bukit Gedung was developed in the early 1980's with the rapid expansion of Bayan Baru as a satellite town to George Town. The earlier phases included some low-cost apartments and link houses. Later projects included middle-cost apartment.

Schools in the vicinity of Bukit Gedung include Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Raja Tun Uda, Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Seri Permai, and Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) Chong Cheng in Sungai Ara. The nearest market from Bukit Gedung is the Bayan Baru Market. The nearest shopping mall is Sunshine Square while the nearest hypermarket is Giant. Petrol stations in and around Bukit Gedung include the Caltex in Jalan Tengah and the Shell along Jalan Mayang Pasir. Hospital Pantai Mutiara is along Jalan Tengah.
Traffic
Traffic along the two main roads in Bukit Gedung, namely Jalan Tengah and Jalan Mayang Pasir, is quite heavy, especially during the morning and evening rush hours. Jalan Tengah in particular is quite congested despite it having been widened a few times, and motorists pass thorugh it on the way to Sungai Ara, Relau and Paya Terubong.
