Dengkil is a town in the district of Sepang, Selangor, located just south of Putrajaya and near Cyberjaya. Once a quiet agricultural settlement, it has grown rapidly due to its proximity to Malaysia’s administrative and technological hubs. Today, Dengkil balances its traditional village charm with new townships, housing estates, and expanding infrastructure. 1
Dengkil has its origins as a traditional Malay settlement dating back to the early 19th century. Its name is believed to come from the old Malay word “dingkil,” meaning “shallow,” possibly describing the shallow areas of the nearby rivers such as Sungai Langat and Sungai Semenyih. 2
Before Malaysia’s independence, Dengkil was primarily an agricultural area focused on rubber and oil palm plantations. The establishment of Putrajaya and Cyberjaya in the 1990s transformed Dengkil’s landscape, spurring rapid development in housing and infrastructure. 3
Dengkil retains much of its rural character despite modernisation. The town centre is lined with traditional shophouses, local eateries, and markets, while new housing estates such as Taman Dengkil Jaya and Taman Mutiara Dengkil have emerged on its outskirts. 4
The surrounding landscape includes rolling plantations and small kampungs, giving the area a peaceful semi-rural charm. At the same time, new mixed developments cater to the growing population of professionals working in nearby cities. 5
The property market in Dengkil is relatively affordable compared to nearby Cyberjaya and Putrajaya. Median prices for landed homes generally range between RM 400,000 and RM 650,000, while apartments and flats are often priced below RM 300,000. 6
Several new projects have been launched in recent years, particularly around the borders of Cyberjaya, including townships developed by LBS Bina and Mah Sing. These developments attract young families and first-time homebuyers seeking value for money and good accessibility. 7
Dengkil enjoys excellent road connectivity due to its strategic location near major highways. It is served by the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE, E26), the Maju Expressway (MEX, E6), and the South KESAS Expressway (E20), linking it easily to Kuala Lumpur, Shah Alam, and Nilai. 8
The town is about a 20-minute drive from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Putrajaya Sentral, which offers MRT and ERL (KLIA Transit) connections. Bus services also connect Dengkil to nearby townships and administrative centres. 9
Dengkil was once home to several tin mining sites during the colonial period. The abandoned mine ponds have since become scenic water bodies and wildlife habitats, some now forming part of the Paya Indah Wetlands nature reserve. 10
