Tuaran (GPS: 6.17626, 116.23279) is a town to the north of Kota Kinabalu in Sabah. The district, also called Tuaran, covers an area of 1166 sq km and has a population of 94,000 (2006 est.) with ethnic Dusuns forming the majority, followed by Bajaus and Chinese. The most prominent landmark in Tuaran is a nine-storey Chinese pagoda.
The town of Tuaran is 34 km from Kota Kinabalu. As with many towns in Sabah, it has a farmer's market, called Tamu, which takes place every Sunday morning. The tamu is a good opportunity for tourist to catch a glimpse of the town in action. It is in fact the second biggest tamu is Sabah after the one in Kota Belud.
Getting there
You can catch buses and minivans from Kota Kinabalu to Tuaran. The journey takes about 30 minutes and costs RM4.00.
