Long Pasia Kerangas Conservation Area, Sabah

Long Pasia Kerangas Conservation Area is a forest reserve in the southwestern park of Sabah. It is one of the rare occurances of kerangas, or heath, in Malaysia. The kerangas forest grows on the white sandy soil supporting a variety of flora including orchids, rhododendrons and pitcher plants. The high concentration of species in the small area of the forest makes it all the more remarkable. In addition, it has been discovered that two species of orchid found within the Long Pasia Kerangas Conservation Area are endemic to the place.
