Pulau Lankayan is a small resort island off Sandakan in Sabah. As with many of the other islands in Sabah, Pulau Lankayan is surrounded by coral reef teeming with marine life. Divers come to admire the many different types of anemones, spider crabs, nudibranchs, coral shrimps, seahorses, parrotfishes, rays, and other types of marine fauna. Occasionally, especially around March, divers may also spot the gigantic whale shark off the island.
On Pulau Lankayan itself are pandan screwpines and casuarina trees. There is one resort of the island, Lankayan Island Dive Resort (tel: 089 673999 in Sandakan, 089 765200 in Tawau, www.lankayan-island,com), established in 1997.
