Ng Boo Bee's Fountain, Taiping (4 February, 2006)
Ng Boo Bee Fountain (GPS: 4.8562, 100.74745) is a fountain at the
Taiping Lake Gardens. It was donated by its namesake, a leading member of the Taiping Hokkien mining community. Ng was a prominent tin miner, philanthropist and member of the Taiping Sanitary Board. A case of rags to riches, Ng arrived in Malaya penniless, but worked his way up, trading in everything including timber, railway and houses, to become one of the richest man in Taiping. Along the way, he created jobs for his fellow immigrants. When he died, his funeral procession was four hours long.
Ng Boo Bee's fountain was made of cast iron at the Penang Foundry. It was originally installed at the
Taiping Market, but was later moved to the lawn outside the Lake Gardens.
