Lister Memorial Arch, Kuala Pilah (9 July, 2016)
Lister Memorial Arch (GPS: 2.74175, 102.24847) is a memorial erected to honour Martin Lister, the British Resident of
Negeri Sembilan. Lister arrived in Malaya in 1883, and took up the position as Revenue Collector for the British in 1886. At that time, the state was known as Sri Menanti Federation.
Lister was instrumental in bringing an end to clan riots between the various groups of Chinese miners in the area. The arch honouring him was erected in 1897, possibly after he had passed away that same year, having contracted blood poisoning. He died as his ship was passing through the Suez Canal, on its way to England.
