National Stadium, Kuala Lumpur

National Stadium (GPS: 3.05473, 101.69142) is the main sporting arena at the National Sports Complex at Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur. It is often called the National Stadium at Bukit Jalil or Bukit Jalil National Stadium. This oval-shaped stadium has a capacity of 180,000 seated spectators, making it one of 15th biggest stadiums in the world.1 The stadium was officiated by then Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, on 1 January, 1998, in preparation for the 1998 Commonwealth Games to be held in the country.

In addition to the 1998 Commonwealth Games, the National Stadium has played host to other sporting events such as the 2001 Southeast Asian Games, 2006 FESPIC Games and 2008 ASEAN University Games. The stadium is also the home stadium for the national football team. The stadium is also the venue for various concerts held by international artistes including Taylor Swift, Usher, Fish Leong and Kelly Clarkson.

The sport field at the National Stadium measures 68 meters by 105 meters and is turfed with grass. Around it is a 9-lane 400-meter synthetic track and a 6-meter by 60-meter warm-up track. The stadium is lit with 1,500 flux floodlights. It has a large video matrix storeboard and a high-tech video screen board.
