Jalan Haji Taib, Kuala Lumpur (Jan 2020)

Jalan Haji Taib is a minor road in the Chow Kit area of Kuala Lumpur. It runs from Jalan Raja Laut in the west to Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman in the east. It is intersected by a number of lanes all named after Haji Taib.

The namesake of Jalan Haji Taib, one Haji Mohamad Taib bin Haji Abdul Samad1, was a 19th century Malay merchant who moved to Kuala Lumpur from Batu Sangkar in Sumatra, and established his businesses here. His properties include vast areas in the Chow Kit neighbourhood, which explains how his name was immortalized on the roads here.
