Various newspapers including The Sun Daily, Malaysiakini and Malay Mail reported on water level at Empangan Machap reaching critical level, necessitating water rationing in various parts of Johor.
25 April, 2019 The Starreported Simpang Renggam MP Dr Maszlee Malik hopes that the Johor State Government would consider expediting the construction of pipelines for residents of Simpang Renggam to use the water of Empangan Machap. Previously, the residents of Simpang Renggam depended on the water from Sungai Ulu Benut, but the river is now recording high content of ammonia.
