It runs in a northeast direction from the interchange of Jalan Tampoi, continuing from Jalan Datin Halimah and Jalan Petaling, to reach Jalan Kempas Lama, which intersects with it. Beyond the intersection of Jalan Kempas Lama is the new development of Kempas Utama.

The section known as Jalan Kempas is generally regarded as between the Jalan Tampoi and Lebuhraya Pasir Gudang interchanges. North of that is Jalan Kempas Baru.
