Scunthorpe is a city in Lincolnshire, England. It is the third largest town in Lincolnshire after Grimsby and Lincoln.

The history of Scunthorpe goes back to at least the Norman Conquest, as it appears in the Domesday Book in 1086 as Escumetorp. In 1859 iron ore was discovered here by Rowland Winn, sparking the iron and steel industry of the town, and fuelling its rapid growth. Today Scunthorpe continues the legacy as a major industrial town and home to the largest steel processing center in the United Kingdom.

Scunthorpe suffered the biggest earthquake to be experienced in the British Isles on 27 February, 2008, when it was rocked by a quake of 5.2 magnitude.
