Hortobágy National Park is a World Heritage Site recognising the cultural landscape of a vast expanse of grassy plains, steppe and wetlands known as the Puszta.
The landscape of the Hungarian Puszta is regarded as an outstanding example of a cultural landscape shaped by the pastoral lifestyle of the people that has remained intact for the past two thousand years. The area has seen the raising and domestication of animals such as cattle, sheep, oxen and horses
Hortobágy National Park was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 23rd session of the World Heritage Committee in Marrakesh, Morocco, on 29 November - 4 December, 1999.
