Arkadi (Greek: Αρκάδι) is a small town on the north coast of Crete, Greece. It has a population of around 5,600 people (2012 estimate). It is best known for its monastery.
The Arkadi Monastery dates back to the 16th century. This Eastern Orthodox monastery played a central role in Cretan resistance against Ottoman rule in the 19th century. Over nine hundred people killed themselves in the monastery rather than surrender to the Ottomans.
