Sarandë is a city on the southern part of Albania. It is one of the most important tourist destinations in the Albanian Riviera. The city faces the Ionian Sea in the Mediterranean, and is close to Burint, a World Heritage Site.

Sarandë experiences a Mediterranean climate. The hottest months are July and August, when the average high temperature regularly reaches 31°C (88°F). Coldest month is January, when it drops to 4.7°C (40.5°F). December is the wettest month, with 169 mm (6.65 in) of precipitation.

Sarandë has a population of around 30,000 people (2011 estimate). It observes the Central European Time, which is an hour ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+1), and two hours ahead during Daylight Saving Time in summer.

Sarandë was known as Onchesmos during the time of antiquity. It was inhabited by the Chaonians, a tribe of ancient Greeks. During that period, it became a port city for the Chaonian capital, Phoenice.

Sarandë was ruled by the Ottomans from the 15th century until the early 20th century. In 1913 it was occupied by Greece. Then in 1939, Italian forces also occupied and annexed the city. The city was captured by the Greeks again in 1940 during the Greco-Italian War.

You can reach Sarandë by taking a ferryboat from Corfu in Greece. If you are arriving from Tirana, you can take a bus, taxi van or taxi to reach it.
