The Wudang Mountains in Hubei Province, China, has well preserved palaces and temples dating back to the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. The mountains are a treasured site of Chinese art and architecture spanning over one thousand years.

The Ancient Building Complex in the Wudang Mountains of China was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 18 session of the World Heritage Committee in Phuket, Thailand, on 12-17 December, 1994.

Wudang Mountains, also called Wudangshan, has been a well-known site for Taoist monasteries. The Taoist religious buildings at Wudang Mountains date back as early as the 7th century. It was a Taoist academic centre for research, training and the practise of meditation.

In 1417, the Yongle Emperor of the Ming Dynasty order the construction of the Hall of Yuzhen for Zhang Sanfeng, a Chinese Taoist priest who is credited with founding the Chinese martial arts of Wudangquan and Taijiquan.

Wudang Mountains was the venue of the third biannual Traditional Wushu Festival held from 28 October to 2 November, 2008.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
