Pearl Shoal Falls, Jiuzhaigou (17 October, 2005)
Pearl Shoal (Simplified Chinese: 珍珠滩; Traditional Chinese: 珍珠灘; Pinyin: Zhēnzhū Tān) is one of the most magnificent sights in
Jiuzhaigou Valley. It is located in Rize Gully, at an elevation of 2433 meters. The Pearl Shoal is a wide, gently sloping area over which a thin sheet of water cascades down a 20 degree gradient. The water empties into the spectacular Pearl Shoal Waterfall, which drops 28 meter over a broad 310 meter curtain. A wooden walkway leads across the shoal and down one side to the foot of the falls.
The Pearl Shoal got its name from the sparkling effect of droplets that resemble pearls as they cascade down the shoal towards the fall.
