Kuan Tai Temple, Macau

Kuan Tai TempleKuan Tai Temple (9 November, 2007)

Kuan Tai Temple, also called Sam Kai Vui Kun, is an important Chinese temple in Macau. It is located at Rua Sui do Mercado de São Domingos, the old market place and bazaar. It was built in 1750 and dedicated to Kuan Tai, the god of war and wealth. The statue of the deity sits on the altar flanked by images of his son and his standard bearer. The table for the offerings have an ornately carved front.

The feast day of Kuan Tai falls on the 13th of the fifth moon, and again on the 24th day of the sixth moon.

The place around Kuan Tai Temple was a favourite watering hole for Macau's merchants. Before the Macau Chinese Chamber of Commerce was established in 1912, the area around Kuan Tai Temple was the centre of the trades. The significance of the temple increased just as the bazaar declined.

Kuan Tai Temple is open daily from 8:00am to 6:00pm. It is one of the sights within the Historic Centre of Macao inscribed as a World Heritage Site.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
